Let's Conversate ! Break the Chain of Social and Mental Alienation.

Dear All , Kaavish Post is trying to collect and compile diverse experiences of people during COVID-19 crisis.  As most of us are sailing in almost same boat, though some sections of society are worst hit and still struggling for their survival . This sharing of feeling will help us in creating a connection with each other as a society, which many of us has lost in the time of Social Distancing. Many persons who are able to eat three times a day and have a house to live are unable to deal with their thoughts, feelings, anxiety, loss of hope, pessimism, and other sort of issues. Others from working class are struggling to arrange next meal for their family and for themselves. Health workers (including sanitary workers, nurses and doctors), philanthropist, activists and others are working on ground, facing risk of infection but giving their best to bring our country out of this crisis. At this point of time we students can try to reconnect this society on the level

Reservation or No Reservation.

By Himanshoo Atri The caste system, where or how did it start and how does it end? I don’t have a precise answer to this question but what I vaguely remember is one childhood memory from my school days. I think I was in class 3 rd /4 th when the Hindi teacher was teaching us about our first President Dr. Rajinder Prasad,   could be his biography by some female reporter who visited his residency, and while asking him personal life questions she inquired about his wife. The honorable President of India stated that she is a nice woman but didn’t want anyone else except Brahmin to be a cook in her kitchen. At that time, I had recently done the formalities of being a SC student in my school and was introduced to the caste system. To date, the way the teacher delivered this particular incident in the class strikes me; the teacher explained it in a very casual but indifferent way. I still think about it but now I know the caste philosophy behind it. I wonder what if the teacher had criti

#2. Domestic Violence || Shattering popular narratives.

By Mansi Walia Any violence committed in domestic sphere against members of house, irrespective of gender, age, marital status, etc, is DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Well, it can have various forms but one thing among all of them is common- it mostly and usually comes from your own. And that’s the most tragic part because societal pressure to maintain relationships forces the victims to be silent. Not to forget that they’re the weak targets which adds on to their silent misery. There’s a popular narrative that dowry is the only cause of domestic violence in India. Whenever we hear or read news taglines such as “woman suffered burn injuries due to cylinder blast or due to kerosene”, “woman suffers heckling and thrashing by in laws or husband”, we take no moment to conclude that it must be due to dowry demand. Well, it is true that Dowry is the major cause behind Domestic violence against women but then how does this conclusion address the other forms of domestic violence? Does it addres

State is not responsible for the progress of your society

Ankush Sharma (Gucci)   Humans are never independent of their environment; their rationality is shaped by the structures that govern them such as family, economy and polity. In modernity the political and economic structures (that form the embodiment of state) have a privilege over the social structures (Society). Therefore the state considers itself responsible for the development of its ‘human resource’ by the means of social engineering to make society more democratic and modern. It makes a perception of a ‘developing society’ with a progressive ‘role of state'. I am here making a proposition that society is progressing towards rationality and justice, which in other words means weakening of traditional oppressive structures based on patriarchy and caste.  This proposition now raises a pertinent question: why state is so much concerned with the progress of society? Which has two sets of explanation; one is based on the interest of state and the other concentrates on the pr

Post - pandemic situation – A management affair.

By Manik Sharma The present pandemic has hit all spheres of human activity. Whether socio, economic or political it is creeping down, depth of which is a specter. At economic front the heavy reliance on industry and service sector is slowed down, even on the verge of closure.  At s ocial front the existing cleavages of various forms of inequalities like class, race, caste, regional, developmental etc. are joining hands with the pandemic. The pandemic which triggered as a biological phenomenon has now slipped into economic, political and social spheres. The spread of pandemic in all spheres of society can prove more dangerous in a country like India with inadequate infrastructure and fragile social identities. Governments are trying their best to control the pandemic largely through regulating human behavior. Based on researches in social sciences human behavior is usually predicted but in normal situations. The pandemic is new and a crisis is knocking. Therefore in a situation of

THE IMPACT OF COVID -19

By Afshan Mirza “Nature has a way of replenishing itself and the mankind” and it is very apt to the prevailing situation of world around. Corona has been a major blow inclusively to all the existing structures and institutions. All of a sudden, it was realized how unprepared the world is to confront the challenges of pandemic. The Spanish flu of 1918, considered as one of the most deadly Pandemic in human history, took lives of millions of people behind Black Death. The Black Death, estimated to have killed 30% to 60% of European population. It took 200 years for Europeans to recover to its previous level, and Florence didn’t recover until the 19th century, causing greater upheaval to Europe’s social and political structure . Italian chronicler Agnolo di Tura recorded his experience from Siena about Black Death. Father abandoned child, wife husband, one brother another; for this illness seemed to strike through the breath and sight. And so they died. And none could be found to

Domestic violence || Shattering the popular narrative in India

By Mansi Walia I was thinking to try the ‘Dalgona coffee trend’ while reading current headlines about covid-19. And there I came across A Report of The National Commission for Women (NCW), recording a more than twofold rise in gender-based violence.  The total complaints from women rose from 116 in the first week of March (March 2- 8), to 257 in the final week of March (March 23-April 1). Complaints of rape or attempted rape have risen sharply from two to 13, while cases of domestic violence have increased from 30 to 69 over the same comparative period. Amidst this lockdown when few of us are privileged enough to live comfortably, there exists a large section of society which doesn’t enjoy this privilege. And the women, victims of unnoticed domestic violence are the part of that underprivileged section. Unfortunately, when ‘staying home’ is the safest thing to do today, it’s definitely not safe for those women. Whenever we hear or read the word “Domestic Violence”, the image of a man
